Universal Pictures’ “Pitch Perfect 3” is reportedly filming at Tyler Perry Studios’ former location on Continental Colony Parkway.
Multiple film industry sources said the movie is filming at the 57-acre site, which includes five sound stages, offices, production and post-production space.
Perry put the property near Greenbriar Mall on the market in July 2016 for $25 million. TPS President Ozzie Areu first announced Perry would look for a buyer in May 2015. An NAI Brannen Goddard team represents Perry in negotiations. While it searches for a buyer, it is leasing the stages to film and television productions other than Perry’s own.
“It is still for sale, and most importantly there’s a lot of activity there,” said David Cole, vice president of special operations at NAI Brannen Goddard. “Ultimately we believe we’ll have a sale done shortly… We have focused on both [leases and sales] but our primary consideration is selling the property.”
TPS vacated the property after it bought 330 acres of Fort McPherson in Atlanta to convert into a studio complex with up to 16 stages.
The Peach State stands to earn millions from the production. According to Box Office Mojo, the first “Pitch Perfect” had a production budget of $17 million and its sequel’s budget was $29 million.
“Pitch Perfect” has been an immensely successful franchise so far. The first movie, which premiered in 2012, grossed $65 million in the United States. The 2015 sequel grossed $184 million domestically. In the third installment, Anna Kendrick will reprise her starring role in the film alongside Anna Camp and Rebel Wilson.
